• Honors Program: The goal of the honors program is to challenge our students of high ability and help them grow academically. The program is designed to provide educational opportunities/experiences to meet the needs of high achieving and gifted students at the middle school level as well as prepare them to be successful in high school honors courses. Students involved in honors classes earn an additional grade point toward GPA computation.
  Students interested in honors curriculum must meet three criteria:

1. Earn a grade of “A” or “B” in the requested class in fifth grade. (Example: Language Arts honors student must have earned an “A” or a “B” in that fifth grade subject area.)
2. Have scored in the 75th percentile on the SAT-10 in that subject area. (Example: Science honors requires 75th %tile in Science on the SAT-10.)
3. Student willingness to commit to honors curriculum requirements.
Honors choices are available for all students who have met the stated requirements:
1. Honors Science: Science 6, Life Science and Space/Earth Science
2. Honors History: Heritage Studies 6; World Studies; United States History
3. Language Arts: Step-Up-to-Writing; Literature and novel studies at each grade level

• Saxon mathematics differentiated instruction: Students will be placed in math classes based on current math grades, current teacher recommendation, and SAT-10 scores:

1. Math 76 – sixth grade level
2. Math 87 – seventh grade level – advanced sixth graders (honors)
3. Algebra 1/2 - seventh or eighth grade level
4. Algebra I – eighth grade level – advanced seventh graders (honors)
5. Geometry – advanced eighth grade level (honors)
